Consistently this is a good album with the twists and turns of each track veering from one to the other. "Hi-De-Ho" is the unusual standout in which White collaborates with rapper Q-Tip (Kamaal Ibn John Fareed) and samples from swing era icon Cab Calloway. The more I listen to it, the more of an ear worm it becomes. This alone becomes a testament to the well crafted songs on this offering.
Oddly enough, I feel an inclination to revisit Boarding House Reach again to scour its sounds for any potential clues to what might have been an inspiration included here. Perhaps it will show a less than obvious link between the two.
For a Jack White album, it's familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time and this guessing was enough to keep me riveted to the end.
